Hero of Islam?

These women, at a demonstration in Pakistan, are holding this sign that reads "Saddam, hero of Islam". Can anyone tell me why Saddam might be considered a hero of Islam, please?

Because some Muslims are idiots, just as some Americans are idiots, and some Spaniards are idiots.

Many/most/all Sunnis worship (if that's the proper characterization) Saddam Hussein.

You're probably right. I just thought it was so strange. I have the feeling even Saddam wouldn't like it...

worship Saddam? where did you get that juicy peice of info James?

Saddam was never a man of Islam, Islam does not tell you to gas out a whole village of people, nor does it tell you to execute a mass number of people just cause they tried to execute you

Mr. Shott I am Sunni however I do not worship/support Saddam or any of his family. What is your proof for your statement ?

RE: Worshiping Saddam, was it not the case that his government was comprised of Sunnis? I was of the impression that much of the Sunni violence is an effort to reclaim control of Iraq. I have heard/read this in the past, although I can't link to it.

If I am mistaken, I offer my apologies.

And, by the way, I allowed that "worship" was not the proper characterization for the support of Saddam.

I'd like one of the women in the picture to post a comment and tell me themselves why they consider him a hero. Do you think they'll end up reading my blog??

Saddam as a hero of Islam, is laughable, at best. You couldn't find a more secular ruler, only using religion when it suited him. I don't think this is any great mystery to the region, though. What was even funnier was that Saddam and Bin Laden were linked at some point. You couldn't find two people with more unique views from one another.
