I'm not crazy

The psychiatrist I saw yesterday decided I'm not crazy (yet :-)) But thinks some added chemical in my life for some time, would help. So she prescribed pills. Apparently they're mild. She also wants me to talk to a psychologist too, once every two weeks or so... to my surprise, there are psychologists working in Social Security, so I won't have to pay at all, which is a big pleasant surprise because psychologists tend to be expensive. I found out some more about our mystery doctor. It seems like he's an osteopath, I talked to a couple of physicians who know him and spoke wonders of him. So it seems hubby is in good hands even if Dr Mystery is not a physician. Hubby's epileptologist said osteopathic treatment has proved effective in many cases, even though it has not been fully documented... so he told us that it's quite alright to continue seeing Dr Mystery, as long as it's a complementary thing. That does not mean he gives up on trying to find the right medication. He said for some patients it might take some time before we find the right drug...

Nuri, in the US osteopaths (DOs) are physicians, just as are allopaths (MDs), although they have different approaches to healing. After many years of being thought of as "second-rate doctors," DOs have become much more widely accepted, even by MDs, who used to look down their nose at them.

In this case, what you referred to as "physicians" think highly of this particular practitioner, which says something about him and his practice of medicine.

The hospital on whose board I serve has quite a few DOs on staff and they are every bit as good as the MDs. In fact, we regard them highly enough to have implemented clinical rotations and a residency program for students of an osteopathic school nearby.

You have a lot of stress in you life, Nuri. The pills should make the load a little lighter.

You sound much more positive today! Keep it up! And of course you're not crazy... anyone would have a tough time dealing with this situation. You're strong.

James: My mistake, Dr Mystery is a Physiotherapist. He's not a physician or osteopath, but we've been told by several doctors that he knows a lot more than many physicians out there, and in fact, some doctors have been "trained" by this man. He plans to retire next year, it seems... But he said if we want more therapy and we don't want to travel for three hours he can recommend some good osteopaths in Barcelona. For now, we'll keep seeing him.
Ayla: Thanks!! I have this ups and downs, but I'm still in control!! I think we women in general tend to be more moody than men! Hormone changes +stress are a bad combination...

It's nice to hear from you people, thanks for taking your time to comment!
